Resources for Parents
We know how challenging it can be to juggle the many facets of parenting. Take advantage of our roster of resources designed to make you busy lives easier. These include a hot lunch program, before and after school programs, and tutoring.
The San Carlos School District has a partnership with Choice Lunch to provide daily, healthy lunches to students. Choice Lunch offers a wide selection of hot and cold menu items. Visit the District webpage to set up an account and order lunch for your child.
The PTA volunteers help distribute lunch to Arundel students. Volunteer shifts last about 45 minutes and volunteers receive a “lunch credit” with The Lunchmaster that can be redeemed for their child. See volunteer opportunities for helping with hot lunch.
Before and After School Activities
The San Carlos-Belmont After School program offers before school (Breakfast Club) and after school care. Learn about the program and how you can sign up. The After School program is located on campus but run independently.
Also, Smart-E is another on-campus after school program. Smart-E is district run and gives students the chance to participate in a variety of before and after school activities such as sports classes, dance classes, yoga and more. They also offer numerous camps during school breaks. Please visit their site to learn more.
The Healthy Cities Tutoring Program is a free, tutor/mentor program providing San Carlos elementary and middle school children with one-on-one support from local community volunteers. The program increases the academic skills and self-esteem of the children in our community. Through individualized tutoring sessions, guided by the student’s classroom teacher, the volunteers help students develop improved academic skills, including reading, writing, math and homework assistance. With increased confidence in academic abilities comes an increase in self-esteem.
Volunteer tutors are recruited from all sectors of the community and include high school students, parents and senior citizens. The volunteers receive an training and orientation provided by San Carlos School District teachers. Tutors are paired with a student at the San Carlos school of their choice and tutoring times are arranged to fit the volunteer’s schedule. More volunteers are always needed!
